When I started online, way back in the 2005, I owned a computer related website called Pc King Computers. At that time, I did not know about web design, ftp, or internet marketing. I guess you can say, I was clueless.

I ended up hiring a small website development company from Seattle who charged me $400.00USD to build the site. In Canadian funds, that worked out to roughly $500.00, which for me, was a lot of money.

One week later, everything was finished – I had my own online business. I can remember showing the site to my friend who told me “Wow, your logo looks really good…very professional.”

Needless to say, I was very proud of myself and very anxious to start making money online.

I put ALOT of work into getting everything set up and ready to take orders. I can remember opening accounts with the two major supply companies, setting up my merchant account, and researching my competitors. I spent countless hours making sure everything was perfect.

Back in 2005, I suffered from the “build it and they will come” mentality.

I did not fully understand the complex world of internet marketing. I did not comprehend the vastness of the internet. I failed to realize that without a full-fledged marketing plan my website may as well be invisible!

I’ll Never Forget How I Felt

After a few weeks of being online, I quickly realized that nobody was visiting my site. I called dozens of friends, encouraging them to spread the word but that didn’t improve the situation.

All that time and energy, and not a single sale. I was horrified and felt awful.

You see, it got to a point where I needed to make a change and start making money online. I could not afford to fail a second time.

I spent countless hours on marketing sites and forums, scouring for tips and tricks. Eventually I started to understand what I was lacking – Targeted Traffic.

In order to succeed online, you must have a steady flow of targeted traffic. It made perfect sense. I immediately began asking myself, how can I generate targeted traffic without spending a fortune?
